Sun and Sea

Sailboats leaving for a race, port of LivornoYesterday I arrived just in time to watch the sailboats leaving port for a race. There was a lot of activity even here, far from the racing waters, and I caught the three sailboats of our Navy coming back.Orsa Maggiore, Italian Navy, port of Livorno
“Orsa Maggiore” (Ursa Major)

Stella Polare, Italian Navy, port of Livorno
“Stella Polare” (Pole Star)

Corsaro II, Italian Navy, port of Livorno
“Corsaro II” (Privateer II)

  2. I like the composition of these photos. And the sail boats looks great. The Orsa Maggiore looks expensive.

  3. Are the sailboats from yesterdays foreign navy? I think I see the Marine Self-defence Force's flag! Seems like a beautiful day for a race!

  5. So very beautiful, VP. Anyone of these photos would be worth framing and hanging. Couldn't you sell them to interested parties?

  9. Ah, what glorious photos!
PS. Haven't visited recently because I have a typical Minnesota summer cold with sleeplessness and lack of stamina--not much fun! Haven't been around much as a result! Have a good week-end!

  11. @ Kaori - Some Japanese officers were taking part to the regattas and, in the first picture, they were flying the Rising Sun Flag of your Navy.

@ Jacob - I am not sure if there is a market for pictures of sailboats slowly motoring to port with folded sails.

  12. Such pretty boats! But they would look nicer with the sails out. You should complain that they're ruining your photos! ;-)

  13. Beautiful ships. I always wanted a sailboat. Now, I'd rather just look at them.

Walla Walla: town named after Indian tribe... but I swear the wine was excellent (and expensive).

  19. By the way VP, you definitely bought your edition of the 'Os Lusíadas' at the Book Fair whose pic I posted yesterday, because it has been taking place there for many years, whether it's in April, May or June... :-)

    Love the harbor views.

  21. Your sun and sea would be beautiful, and enough, even without the beautiful boats.
