Ponte dell'Angiolo

Ponte dell'Angiolo, Angel's Bridge, LivornoThe “Ponte dell'Angiolo” (Angel's Bridge) seen from under the arch of the “Ponte di San Giovanni”, in background the ramparts of the “Fortezza Nuova”.Ponte dell'Angiolo, Angel's Bridge, LivornoThe name comes from a still existing old street, “Via dell'Angiolo”, which was probably so called after an ancient inn, the “Osteria dell'Angiolo”. The angel in the name was a coin of the time.Ponte dell'Angiolo, Angel's Bridge, LivornoIt was formerly called “Ponte dei Lavatoi Vecchi” (Old Lavoirs Bridge) because some old lavoirs, public places for the washing of clothes, were still located nearby until the last war.

  2. The echoing of the curves in your first photograph is eye-catching VP. It must be calming to be intersected by all these waterways. From the top of my street I am now able to glimpse Sydney Harbour and that always fills me with contentment.

  4. The first shot is especially beautiful, VP - so well composed...with the palm trees, it looks like a tropical paradise! Your city is very beautiful!

  6. Wow. Where were you when you took that first photo? Amazing.

Filipinos in rural areas, especially those without running water, still wash their clothes (and bathe) in rivers.

  11. Now you've got a bridge under a bridge. These photos are really your specialty!

It's hard to imagine public washing places were still around only 60 years ago or so. It's really not such a long time ago, but we've made a lot of advances since then.

  13. I keep having new favourite bridges in Livorno. Are there any really ugly ones?

  15. I like the 2nd photo best, with the yellow building, red boat, and the curved shadow of the building. It would make a good painting! Actually, I like them all. Fun to imagine floating down the canals, under the bridges.

  17. Nice series. I like the first photo because of its interesting framing and the second one because of the composition, the yellow building, the red boat.

  18. @ ciel - This is my favorite of the Venice bridges, probably because it looks pristine and is near the fortress. You still have one more chance to change idea, in few days I'll post the last one.
