We have already seen the church of the “Luogo Pio” (Pious Place), which is the last part left standing of an old orphanage. This bridge was left in place when the canal was interred in 1898 and became, for almost a century, not more than a hump on the street. When the first part of the canal was dug again few years ago, the hump regained its status of a bridge, even if still closed by a gate. This body of water is now a dead end, until the reddigging of the old canal will be completed. This is the last of the New Venice bridges, until the next reconstruction of the “Ponte di Crocetta”.

Typical. One discovers something as intriguing as a watery dead end and what does one find - a gate obstructing any hopes of exploring this path into the unknown! (On the other hand, I don't have a boat and wouldn't known one end of it from the other if I did.)
ReplyDeleteThis has to be the first bridge I've ever seen that ends so abruptly after just going under it. I guess that's why there are no boats there. :)
ReplyDeleteIt fascinates me that so much re-digging is happening in Livorno.
This brige deservesto be above the ground! Nice reflections.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a terrific project. You must be so proud of your city for embarking on this. Hopefully there will be no dead ends and all of the plans will proceed as proposed.
ReplyDeleteAnother very nice series, VP. It will be interesting to follow the progress of the "redigging."
ReplyDeleteI like these New Venice bridges very much...I think they must add a lot to your city.
Now, where exactly will you park your boat?
What is it with you digging up underground canals? :-))
ReplyDeleteSorry you had to rush out of the snow.
Beautiful little bridges in Livorno. The canal water looks so smooth and calm.
ReplyDeleteGreat series. I love it when you show all the areas around the bridge in your images. Great work. Vogon how many of these have you done now? They are all beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe canal and old buildings are so beautiful! It's grey there, like here. It does look strange to see the dead end.
ReplyDeleteThnak you for your help. :-D
hope to see the old canal back in working condition!
ReplyDeleteWhat a thing! The canal had been buried and now they're redigging it! Hope now they made up their minds for good! :)
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!

Once again such an interesting post. Canals will only bring charm to the city. Better than a roadway with cars.
ReplyDeleteI see. They're restoring old canals that have been built over. Very pretty pictures, especially the bottom one. Very few people on the streets.
ReplyDeleteThe water looks quite clear. It is hard to think of Venice without gondolas.

Somehow these canals and bridges manage to look romantic even when they're dead ends or humps on the street.
ReplyDeleteThe canal views are allways great no matter from where you take the shots!
