Painted View

Quickly crossing the street, just after my visit to “Villa Regina”, I saw this painting in a window. It wasn't a gallery, just a hardware store, so there is no masterpiece involved here. I tried to shoot the same place, the “Darsena Vecchia”, as in the painting. There are a few minor differences which seem to date the view (not necessarily the painting) at some decades ago.On the left you can see the “Hotel Gran Duca”, a nice venue hosted inside a tract of the ancient walls of Livorno. Our most famous landmark, the “Four Moors”, is on the right of the hotel. Between the two pink buildings starts “Via Grande”, our porticoed main street. The bridge on the right, called “Ponte dei sospiri” (Bridge of Sighs), is the main access to the “Porto Mediceo”.Some commotion in the water attracted my attention: a group of seagulls was gathering excited around a fishing boat, whose crew was cleaning up their catch of the day.
