Four Sphinxes

The most famous sphinx in Livorno is still this one, which has a twin sister just in front of her.

You can see two more on this front door in Via Coccoluto Ferrigni,

The Sphinx of Livorno

Terracotta sphinx, via Mayer, Livorno
This busty sphinx stands on the pillar of a gate in Via Mayer, facing her slightly less photogenic twin sister on the other pillar.

This terracotta work appeared in one of my first posts and a couple of years later it showed up again in a set of mythological creatures.

Via Mayer's Monster

Mural, via Enrico Mayer, Livorno
We have already seen this mural three years ago, in an Easter Monday walk. This time I managed to get a straight shot, without the parked cars. It doesn't get much better, but at least it can be judged properly.

Topless Sphinx

Topless sphinx, LivornoWikipedia says: In Greek mythology, a sphinx is represented as a monster with a head and breasts of a woman, the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, and a serpent headed tail.

The unknow “artist” who made this sphinx decided that the eagle and the snake part weren't so important and concentrated himself on the... rest. This terra-cotta sphinx has a twin sister, and both are placed on the back entrance of a famous “palazzo” in central Livorno.
