“In 1995, Giant designed the first sloping bicycle, featuring a smaller rear triangle and sloping top tube. The tighter chainstay-seatstay configuration is said to be inherently stiffer than a more conventional frame design, and because less material is used, the Compact Road design is also said to be lighter. Add to that more responsive cornering and improved acceleration, as well as improved aerodynamics, and the Giant design became much imitated.” (Giant Bicycles, Wikipedia)
The ultimate example of bicycle art, without bicycles. The easily foreseeable disaster of our bike sharing program has left a few abandoned stations and a hole of 130,000 Euro in our city's balance sheet.
This yellow bicycle proclaims clearly that it is a ‘green bike’. This may sounds vaguely Magrittian, but it is also true because ‘Green Bike’ is the name of the shop that rents these bicycles in Livorno.
Another masterpiece of “bicycle art”, this time in Via Ernesto Rossi. Please note how the colors of the art piece match perfectly with the background, an obvious sign of an elaborate study by the unknown author.
It has been a while since my last post of “bicycle art” and I hope you will appreciate the drama of this work placed on the lungomare, not far from the new building at the Scoglio della Regina.
