The original blocks of public housing around Piazza della Barriera Garibaldi were built in the late Twenties of the last century on a project of the architect Ghino Venturi.
Heavily damaged by the war, these buildings were rebuilt following the same design to speed up the reconstruction effort. Only recently some have been fitted with external lifts.

I would imagine those lifts are most welcome additions.
ReplyDeletehandsome buildings
ReplyDeleteYep, an elevator sure help when you live on that top floor.
ReplyDeletePretty amazing to be public housing. I'll take a flat, on any floor- with or without lift!

i like the curves in the first photo and it's so interesting to me to see people hang their clothes to dry off the balconies!
ReplyDeleteThe elevators add interest to the otherwise plain buildings.
ReplyDeleteI love the art deco style!
ReplyDeleteThe style does appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteThese look rather modern for being built in the 20s. And overall in pretty good shape. Thank goodness they are putting in some elevators. I'd hate to carry groceries up four flights of stairs.
ReplyDeleteThose designs have stood the test of time, they still look good today. We have a lot of those "external lifts" here too. I rather like them.
ReplyDeleteGreat 1920s styling!
ReplyDeleteThat first one. What color.
ReplyDeleteGreat design of the balcony.
ReplyDeleteA touch of Art Deco here, my favourite!
