The “Perle di Livorno” (Pearls of Livorno) are the three islands of the Tuscan Archipelago within the province of Livorno: Gorgona, Capraia and Elba. It is also the name of a race where the sailboats touch the three islands before coming back to Livorno. The winner of the third edition was my friend Roberto with his “Ondalunga”.

I wonder what constitutes a "touch"?
ReplyDeleteRevrunner - Going around a buoy in the vicinity of the island?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Roberto. (I know absolutely nothing about sailing.)
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks! I had visions of crew members jumping overboard to "touch" the island and then jumping back in again to head off to the next one. :-)
ReplyDeleteMazal tov to Roberto and crew. And to the photographer.
ReplyDeleteDina - The photo was not taken during the actual race, but last April just outside the port.
