R2-D2--my first thought, too. :-)
If R2-D2 ever met this thing it would be love at first sight!
I fondly remember a coffee shop in Chicago that used a model just like this to serve excellent expresso and cappuccino coffees. It hissed steam and ran dark coffee into little cups. Ah, those were the days.
No no no. It is R2-D2. I would recognize it anywhere.
I would not want to clean it.

It DOES look like Rs-D2's grandfather.
The French Pastry Cafe in the LaFonda Hotel has a spectacular copper espresso machine which I should probably photograph, too. This one is great!!
