On the sides of the bust of the saint, above the former entrance of “San Gregorio Illuminatore”, stand the allegorical representations of Charity (viewer's right) and Faith (viewer's left). Both the bust and the statues are works by Andrea Vaccà.

VP, beautiful sculptures, nicely captured.
ReplyDeleteOne is still able to feel the passion that must have went into their creation.
ReplyDeletePlease have a good Wednesday.
daily athens
They really evoke so much emotion.
ReplyDeleteWhat a striking statue...beautiful
ReplyDeleteBeautiful statues, and photos!
ReplyDeleteThey are wonderful, VP. I am glad you didn't rush away from yesterday's post. We needed to savor these two side statues.
ReplyDeleteHi VP, the statues are magnificent! "Faith" has a rather haunted facial expression ...I have enjoyed looking at both statues! Do you know if they're carved from stone? I was just thinking about the weight, of course no matter what they're made of they're heavy. Also do you know what the little "V" shaped wires are on the statues and the ledges?
ReplyDeleteVery classical looking.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteIs the single one Hope? Is it symbolic of something that Hope has lost her right hand? I hope not.
Beautiful statues!
ReplyDeleteAh VP, these are magnificently rendered!
ReplyDelete@ Theanne - Those wires are anti pigeon spikes to avoid the perching of the birds on the statues.
ReplyDeleteOttimi scatti! Bello come la luce "lavora" le statue dando loro vitalità! Ciao, Arianna
ReplyDeleteAnd both are great!
ReplyDeleteThe details are great!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, both of them.
ReplyDeleteVP...good idea about the pigeon wires...it apparently works quite well!
