No it isn't one of those picturesque and full of history names of an English pub. There actually are a dog, a tortoise and a swan, or better their effigies. I found this vigilant dog near the dilapidated “Villa Valsovano”, in “Via Venuti”, where the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley lived occasionally from 1819 to 1821.
We haven't yet seen the “Palazzo Santa Elisabetta” (St Elisabeth's Palace) in “Piazza Attias”, but I can show you a large tortoise dwelling in its gallery.
The last Sunday market in “Piazza Cavour”, where a poor swan was lost amidst the bric-a-brac.More Walks
The tortoise has quite an intimidating look in his eye! But very interesting pictures indeed!! Must be fun there.
ReplyDeletegreat finds VP. there is nothing like a dog statue, I love them.
ReplyDeleteI would also like to check out that Sunday market too.
These are all so cute ... you must have been on the lookout for special critters! I was trying to think of a favorite, but they all have their own special "aura."
ReplyDeleteBy the way, that would make a good title for a children's book, "A dog, tortoise and swan." Trillian could write it and you could do the photos.
That's all right, you don't have to thank me. ;-)
It does sound like the name of a pub...
ReplyDeleteI think the dog is somewhat "younger" than Percy Bysshe Shelley -- and the tortoise looks like he is alive! Nice finds. You really know how to look when you are taking a walk!

Great idea for a post. Swans are beautiful even when they aren't real. I think you should find a hare to go with the tortoise. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Nice statues. Every single one of them has "personality". I agree with Jacob, sounds like a good idea for a children's book title.
ReplyDeleteSome really beautiful statues !! I loved the first one especially !!
ReplyDeleteYou went on safari and bagged good trophies.
ReplyDeleteYour posts have inspired Jacob with his book title! The dog reminds me that occasionally at night I can hear what I think are coyotes howling outside our condo. Nice doggies!
ReplyDelete@ Jacob - I don't know about the book, but I have changed the post title as you suggested.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you survived your foray into hostile territory to encounter all these animals.
ReplyDeleteI might just read my Shelley this weekend.
The cute turtle is my favourite but all of them are fabulous!

I especially like the tortoise! Bon weekend
ReplyDeleteLivorno is a jungle!
ReplyDeleteFunny - it would be a great name for a pub though! Happy weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI like them all! I would be tempted to go sit down on that tortoise though.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have the swan :D
ReplyDeleteI never met a swan with a good personality.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post!
ReplyDeleteI love the statues. Wonderful finds!
What a fun assortment of critters! I'm sure you'll find more in one of your walks. :)
ReplyDeleteAre the dog and tortoise carved of wood? I think you must carry your camera with you everywhere, just as I do!
ReplyDelete''it isn't one of those picturesque and full of history names of an English pub'', but it could be one of Aesop's fables! :-)
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! :-D Cute and funny too!
ReplyDeleteWe have a tortoise very much like that at the Detroit Zoo. My Mom had a swan like that she planted purple petunias in--I think it was bigger, though.
:) It does sound like the name of an English pub. The dog seems very content to bask in the sun, cute photo.
