I didn't forget my Sunday walk but it was very brisk one. While it was raining I was able to catch a couple of snaps of this ugliness behind the Coin department store, in “Piazza Attias”.
In the second image, you can see in background the church of “Santa Maria del Soccorso” in “Piazza della Vittoria”.
It is amazing how graffiti can destroy everything no matter how creative. Vogon, brunch at the Corcoran is $38, if you are going to see the exhibit you have to pay a range of $ 12 to 18 depending on the exhibit.

ReplyDeleteThis makes me sad to see. I am trying to get some distance and put a good spin on this but I can't deny the heaviness it inspires in my heart.
ReplyDeleteI've seen documentaries on TV where volunteers try to clean this mess. They work really really hard to have careless people come and do this all over again. Very sad.

It seems as if the graffiti "artists" cannot resist a canvas that belongs to others. I disagree with those who defend it as works of art. It's vandalism, pure and simple.

ReplyDeleteMy city also has a BIG problem with these scribblers, in the whole city center there are corners looking like this; lots of companies hire bodyguards just to protect the buildings from being defaced (especially when it's newly renovated). I'm usually one to like graffiti when they say something intelligent but these "signatures" or "tagging" are in no way a form of art. They only say "I'm marking my territory", which to me equals " "yeah, like a dog peeing" - please, excuse my French :)

ReplyDeleteQuite a few people regard vandalism as art. They should invite the vandals to decorate their own houses and leave public property alone.
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing compared to what I've seen on TV on the walls of some problematic neighbourhoods around Lisbon... but both are visual polution at their best!

ReplyDeleteThis is totally amazing. If there were a little more grafitti, it would almost be a Jackson Pollock. But it's not. It's quite ugly. But I almost feel a glimmer of hope that someday it will be - art??? Or maybe not. I basically hate grafitti.
