With the tiles come the sinuous balustrades sneaking around the Gazebo and, when the sea is rougher, often sprayed by the waves. The southern end of the “Terrazza Mascagni” seems to lead you toward the “Grand Hotel Palazzo”, the magnificent 19th Century hotel recently restored to a five-star splendor. One of the shortest curl of balustrade, at the South end of the promenade. This is not far from the “Love Padlocks” and the church of “San Jacopo in Acquaviva” is just a short walk away.

You probably wouldn't want to try but when things get sprayed by the waves in real cold temperatures, some amazing ice sculptures may appear.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful area! I think when I visit Livorno I'll stay in the Grand Hotel Palazzo. Hmmm...maybe I'd better check the prices first!
ReplyDeleteKudos to whoever designed this balustrade.
Vogon, what a beautiful series of photographs. I love the composition and the way you show the tiles and the balustrades. Once again thank you.
ReplyDeleteI do like the checkerboard tiles and I'm glad you pointed out the balustrades - the tiles seem to steal the show usually. Lovely curved lines - nicely photographed.
ReplyDeleteThe balustrades are gorgeous, especially the first photo.
ReplyDeleteThese pix are all absolutely lovely. I just noticed how the shorter (less tall) border along the grass and around the plants seem to take up where the taller balustrade leaves off in the last picture - like music of the same period.
ReplyDeleteAs long as Jacob is going to pay the bill for us all, I'd like to stay in that hotel, too.
I am imagining the waves curving over the balustrades and beautiful tiles, that would be something to see. The second photo, with the curved and straight lines, is especially nice.

How nice to sit in the gazebo and be sprayed! I love everything about this esplanade, it's really elegant.
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous shots! Mindblowing perspective here. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like a game between black&white 'cheesboard' and a column of balustrade.
ReplyDeletePerfect compositions!
It's such a chic place! The balustrades look fantastic - and what a nice subject:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the past two days' series about the Terrazza. I love everything about it — wet or dry!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place, the second picture could be in a tourist book!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!

I was actually looking at the checkered driveway. But both elements of the photo are neat!
ReplyDeleteThese ballustrades are lovely! As is the terrazo ad the buildings. Wonderful.
ReplyDeletePosto incantevole, splendide foto!
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos, truly excellent!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful balustrades and tiles. You're right, you could play with those geometric lines and curves for hundreds of pictures, if not thousands:)
ReplyDeleteThose checkerboard tiles looks great here. Really good composition on that first photo.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the tiles and the curvy balustrades make a nice compliment. Lucky you to live in such a beautiful place.

I would have thought the tiles would make the ground very busy looking...but I actually LIKE it!
ReplyDeleteNice series, I'm glad that you pointed out the balustrades because my eyes were instantly drawn to the pavement - and missing them would have been a shame.
ReplyDeleteReally captured the grace & flow of a fine balustrade here. Difficult to do I imagine.
ReplyDeleteThese two posts are just fantastic! You surely have shown us the best perspectives! Great job!
