There are iron leaves under the ceiling of the “Mercato Centrale” (Central Market). Few days ago a friend (thank you Stefano!) escorted me on 30-meter high scaffolding and gangways to get some interesting close-ups of this decorated lattice-work. The heavy leaves are bolted and also secured with a short chain, to avoid accidental falls. The inside of the historical market has been just restored to its 19th century splendor and works are still in progress in other parts of the building.

Interesting detail, in the past they spend much more thought on such small details. I wonder if they ever do this in modern buildings.
ReplyDeleteInteresting post about the 4M's.
Looks fantastic, and what a beautiful place! There is similar market in Wrocław, but deperately needs restoration!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend:)
What a beautiful market building!, it really deserves to be maintained and to be seen from way up! I notice the anti-pigeon installations too, I'm a bit obsessed by those birds at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. I would not have guessed where the iron was until I saw the second image.
ReplyDeleteLovely place, I like details.

What a great restoration job.
ReplyDeleteWow, that second photo makes me feel dizzy. You are truly an intrepid photographer!
ReplyDeleteYou went wandering around on scaffolding three miles high just to take some photos?
ReplyDeleteWhat? Are you nuts?
Interesting photos, though! But, we don't want to lose you Vogon Poet, so be a little more careful, if you don't mind!
I agree with Saretta, It's a great shot!
ReplyDeleteWow! Amazing photos! I hope your 'journey' to the top was safe!
ReplyDeleteYou did it. Weren't your legs trembling? Since you live next to this building, more photos will be welcomed :)). Provided your friend still wants to take you around.
ReplyDeleteThe leaves are a gorgeous detail and it's wonderful how people there also have safety uppermost in their minds. Your second shot made me quite dizzy though!
ReplyDeleteBello! I didn't know there was such a beautiful market place in Livorno...
