Harbor Cats

Cat, Porto Mediceo, LivornoWhen I walk inside the port I am looking for ships, but this time cats were more interesting. This black cat was sitting on an old boat in a yard, behind... a grapevine.Cat, Porto Mediceo, LivornoSome steps higher, on the same boat, we have another guardian.Cat, Porto Mediceo, LivornoThe last one seemed more happy and relaxed on some gravel.

The top photo and the bottom show an interesting contrast in mood reflected in body posture. The top looks like the proverbial black cat to avoid if one doesn't want bad luck, but the bottom looks very loveable!!

These are three excellent images, and all three a riff on one of one of my favorite subjects...cats. You've got me purring with this trio, VP.

I love that big black guy in the first photo. He looks proud for a street kitty.

Wonderful series!

They probably live a very good life.....
I just imagen the seafood and "The ITALIAN food" that friends will bring to them!
The black beauty is THE BOSS, I think!:-)

It's strange how many cats can be spotted on the streets! I love the cats in your photos, each is different but all of them are beautiful.
Great week to you:)

They look tough as compared with our house cat!

I don't know what it is, but, cats seem to love boats and all things marine.

Very cute, VP! All of these felines seem to be well fed...perhaps they are feasting on harbor rats?

Not that it matters, but I do like cats and we've had numerous cats down through the years, but they are fairly independent creatures.

With three women in our family, I need no more independent creatures! ;-))

Hmmm... I looked for the famous cats in Rome, they were probably having fun at the seaside in Civitavecchia (is that sp. correct?)
The first one is beautiful... but I prefer dogs.

The first cat looks like my black kitties, and the third is just adorable!

Cute. I love the last one, among the spotted pebbles. And the black one is so black you can barely see its features. Maybe they're out at the port waiting for their Siamese relatives :)

Cats make wonderful subjects for pictures. A friend recently gave me a book "Cats of Venice", maybe there should be one on Livorno :)

It is rare nowadays to see cats out & about in Boston or the surburbs. And very rare indeed to see feral cats just living in the wild. I like cats very much. So I am sad not to meet too many when I am out & about. The foot is ok. Plastic boot cast. A cane. 6-13 weeks wearing the boot. X-ray after 6 weeks to determine progress of healing. Thank you for asking.

Ahhh...cats. Very useful in any society. Boatyards and barnyards. MB

No cats here, only dogs, small dogs. Anyway, reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Black cat, white cat (or is it the other way around?), by Emir Kusturica. Anyway, i do agree with amatamari©, they do indeed appear in the strangest places. Woke up this morning, thought I heard one purring in our bedroom. But no, it was the neighbor's coffee grinder...

I'm very fond of cats so these touch my heart. (But I like dogs too. LOL)

Jacob is spot-on about that independence thingy. Cats have lots of integrity.

Aww, the cat in the last photo looks so relaxed! Wish it were me :)

Are these cats homeless? They don't look it. Lovely photos, especially the bottom one.

I'm curious, are they strays or do they have owners? There are many stray cats and dogs in Manila, that's why I'm interested.

VP said...

I am quite sure that these are stray cats, most of them living inside the ruins of the nearby old Sassaia fort.
There are many yards and workshops around and somebody surely give them some food.

I haven't seen any cats guarding our boats here. If we had them, they would be very wet today. Your Livornese cats look quite contented.

I wonder where the lady with the crystal ball is hiding.
