Inside San Ferdinando

Inside the church of San Ferdinando, LivornoOne of the few things I like of “Effetto Venezia” is that you can see the inside of churches which are always closed outside the Mass schedule. At night not much light is filtering inside so, with lamps and candles only, the photos are quite dark.Inside the church of San Ferdinando, LivornoInside the church of “San Ferdinando” the most interesting work is a statue, placed just behind the main altar, called “Gli schiavi liberati” (The liberated slaves) by the sculptor Giovanni Baratta.Inside the church of San Ferdinando, LivornoThe statue describing an angel freeing two slaves symbolizes the work of the Trinitarian Fathers, whose full denomination was: Order of the Holy Trinity for the Ransom of Captives.

Interesting shots. I like how you've included/used the light from the candles.

You really have some beautiful buildings where you are. Nice photos from the church. I like all the candles.

I think that the dark combined with the candles just creates a more dramatic effect like in the second photo. Beautiful church.

I love the first photo! You have perfectly captured the intimidating atmosphere of old catholic churches.

It looks so eerie in the low light, with so many looming and oddly-shaped shadows. Fantastic shot though!

I find it curious to see so many loose paintings propped around the main ones. Gifts from the congregation?

@ Hilda - Some kind of loose exhibition, just for “Effetto Venezia”, I think.

I love this dark, atmospheric feel. The High Baroque was nothing if not theatrical! It's perfect. But really, they keep the churches closed except for mass and Effetto Venezia? I thought churches were open all the time in Europe. I remember very few that we couldn't explore, but there were a few, yes.

Lovely place - very inspirational! The candles are mu favorite part - they are so straight and stay so parallel to each other. In Bulgarian churches they are all bended and kind of messy - different sizes. In Livorno they got style!

Heavenly photos! The first photo brings me to a pew for some end of day reflection and prayer! Wonderful to see the gorgeous old cathedral!

Incredible photos esp. the 1st one. I think I'd be alternating between these amazing places and go to mass more than 2 or 3 times a year.
